Saturday 29 April 2017, by
We went out to meet the enormous MSC Meraviglia, which headed back to sea for a second series of trials.

It left its construction dock at 6:50 in the morning on April 28, taking advantage of the high tide. The MSC Meraviglia, the largest cruise ship ever ordered by a European operator, left Saint-Nazaire to carry out sea trials.
Built at the STX shipyard, the vessel took 350 workers and technicians on board. The aim was to carry out a full series of tests at sea before delivery at the end of May. Its return to Saint-Nazaire was scheduled for Sunday.
Ordered by the Italian-Swiss operator MSC Cruises, the 315-metre-long and 43-metre-wide ship can carry up to 5,700 passengers.
The MSC Meraviglia is also the first in a series of eleven cruise ships that the operator planned to have built over the following years at the STX shipyard in Saint-Nazaire and by its Italian competitor Fincantieri.
Meraviglia’s sister ship, to be named MSC Bellissima, was also ordered from STX and was due to be delivered in spring 2019.
