A few kilometres from La Cana, Saint-Nazaire Agglomération is carrying out work from 26 to 30 October 2026 on the evergreen oaks above Belle Fontaine beach, in the Rocher du Lion area.
The trees are being cut back to reduce wind resistance and the risk of falling during storms, while preserving their root systems, which help stabilise the cliff. The work forms part of an ecological programme to strengthen and protect this particularly exposed section of the coastal path.
The operation is taking place during the spring tides to make access to the foot of the cliff easier. Some sections of the coastal path are temporarily restricted while the work is under way, and walkers are asked to follow the safety signs.
Autumn is also one of the loveliest times to explore the Saint-Nazaire coast: lower light, a livelier sea and long walks between beaches, rocks and pine trees.
